Raisin' D Republic
Raisin’ D Republic is a project KYC will deliver in 2011. Raisin D Republic will enable a committed, passionate and skilled team to participate in supporting Mission Direct (a British charity) with practical, physical, emotional and spiritual support .
The Raisin D Republic project is part of the wider RE:INVEST programme which is funded and supported by JP Morgan Chase Foundation.
As with Raisin Romania the Raisin D Republic (RDR) project will comprise of two key stages:
STAGE 1
KYC to participate in the national Three Peaks Challenge between April 28th to May 1st. The Three Peaks (3P)Challenge will involve the team scaling the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scarfell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) in three days.The 3P Challenge will be used to raise support and awareness for the project and the work which the team will undertake. This stage will be managed by Hindleap Warren. The team at Hindleap will take us, feed us, provide accommodation and appropriate gear etc. Hindleap Warren will provide qualified Mountain Instructors who will have overall responsibility for the team when on the mountains. However, the team members will need to be physically fit to go on such a challenge and be prepared to undertake some personal training. This will be a tough but rewarding weekend!!!
This trip will be purely to serve two purposes:
· Raise lots of sponsorship/cash and profile for the trip to Dominican Republic.
· Enable the team to get to know each other and have fun.
In between there will be a Team Orientation Day at Mission Direct office in Luton. This is May 21st. All RDR team members will be expected to attend.
STAGE 2
The chosen team will fly out to Dominican Republic (its in the Caribbean) to support and deliver a number of projects.These projects include:
Building houses for families who live in the slums
Involvement with local schools
Visiting local hospitals
Food runs
Church visits
Playing sports and games with the local young people .
The dates for the trip to Dominican Republic are July 17th - 1st August 2011.
THE TEAM
KYC will be taking a team of 14 people to Dominican Republic. This team will consist:
Travis, Leval, Jamarie, Narada and callum (all aged between 14 - 16)
Lucy, Sharna and Kedeesha (aged 17 - 21)
Shem and Daniel (aged 18 - 20)
Paul and David aka Tarantino and Spielberg
Karis and Stu (Team Leaders)
Each team member including the young people will need to raise at least £500 to be part of this life changing team.
