Knights Youth Centre (KYC) is an independent, voluntary and Christian service provider. KYC has been delivering a service in the locality since 1936. KYC is the significant youth provider around Clapham Park. The Centre provides a quality and inclusive youth service for approximately 150 - 200 young people each week (some of whom attend 3 or 4 times per week), living on and around the Clapham Park Estate, an area of high social and economic need in Lambeth. Whilst the majority of the young people who access KYC’s programmes live in and around Clapham Park, KYC does not have any geographical boundaries and we encourage young people to ‘socially commute’ which begin to break down any territorial issues.
Knights provide a service for young people aged 8 – 24. The service includes a range of diverse, challenging and age/culture relevant programmes including gender based workshops, sports coaching, targeted outreach work across the borough (commissioned on behalf of Lambeth Council), use of IT equipment as most the young people do not have sufficient access to a personal computer or internet within their home, specialised girls work, offsite trips, regular residentials, international social action projects, arts and dance as well as all the standard ‘youth centre’ activities. KYC delivers two Apprenticeship programmes. One of which is TYLAP. TYLAP (Trainee Youth Leader Apprenticeship Programme). TYLAP provides leadership, training, qualifications and employment opportunities for 30 young people aged 16 – 24 in youth and community work each year.
