Name: Fred Casey
Year: 1960s
Memory: It was planned to take a large number of members to Fowey in Cornwall for a summer holiday, where we would stay in an empty school using camp beds and sleeping bags. These holidays were always great and enjoyed by everyone who went. The previous year we had gone to Stalham in Norfolk with canoes and even rented sailing boats for on the Broads. So, this particular Easter week end 8 of us went down to cornwall to size it up and see if the locals could cope with us. 2 guys went on motor cycles and the rest went with Ron Saunders in a doormoble that he had rented, It was a long journey as they hadn't built the moterway yet. We put up tents in a field, I shared a tent with Bob Plant. some of us went out in the estury of the river in a sailing boat and got stuck as the sea mist came down for an hour or so but it was a memorable weekend that we all enjoyed. We even arranged a night hike that finished up with the local coast guard being called ou as our torches had been seen along the clift top rather late at night, oh happy days, we did manage to talk our way out of it though. Needless to say, all that went there for the summer weeks had a great time.

Name: Chris Saunders
Year: 1970s
Memory: I remember running a residential holiday in Gunnislake Devon in 1978 with the Juniors. The return trip in the minibus took 18 hours as the head gasket went leaving us overheated and stranded at an M3 service station. To get us going again, the RAC chap pulled the bus around the service station car park at great speed to bump start us. It was terrifying as the tow chain was only 12 feet long, but it worked. Would not be allowed now days -arrived back at KYC at 4am exhaused-parents waiting were really forgiving-especially as their children slept for the next week!!
